Althea Teresa Lewis, MBA (she/her/hers)

Althea began her grant writing career by working as an administrator for a non-profit HIV/AIDS organization in 2005. In this role, she learned the skill of grant writing and successfully secured funding for medical, housing, and supportive services for affected people residing in southeastern North Carolina. She has served in various roles such as grant coordinator, grant specialist, and consultant to help universities, non-profits, and the K-12 system to obtain funding for various projects and programs. Althea’s background and experience in research administration and grants management allow her to offer full grant life cycle support to small and large organizations. She has leveraged her 18 years of grant writing and non-profit experience to secure over $20 million in funding to date. For over a decade, she has facilitated numerous workshops, trainings, and conferences worldwide, including the National Council for University Research Administrators (NCURA) and the Grant Professionals Association (GPA) National Conference. She is an active member of GPA and the North Carolina GPA Chapter.

Her passion for teaching grant writing and non-profit development has allowed Althea to serve as a part-time instructor for community colleges across North Carolina. She has served on numerous peer review panels for the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for 10 years.

Althea obtained a Master's degree in Christian Education (2015) and an MBA (2017) from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She is pursuing a certificate in Non-Profit Management through Duke University and an Educational Leadership doctoral degree through the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In addition, she has a certificate in project management and strategic and human resources management.

She lives in the Raleigh, North Carolina area and has one son who is a junior in college. In her spare time, Althea enjoys reading and watching movies.

My favorite thing about this work is supporting non-profits as they lead their organizations. It is always a rewarding experience to help them secure funding for projects and programs that will benefit the greater community!
